Figuring Out the Stowage Plan

7/23/2013

I finally got a handle regarding which bags I will stow my gear.  The diagram below shows the spaces where everything will go and the weight distribution. There may still be some rearrangement done after I weight each bag to make sure the weight distribution is good.

I am light on tools/spares since I will traveling along the coast where I can usually find repair items if needed.  I am hoping the new Schwalbe tires I installed will keep the punctures at bay.  I will see if just taking the basics will work out in practice.

Due to space limitations, there will be no cooking paraphernalia of any kind since I am reserving that space/weight for camera and related gear so I can work on the video production.

One of the risks of touring alone is leaving the gear on the bike while going inside stores and restaurants.  I placed all the key items and electronics inside the handlebar bag which will go with me when leaving the bike.  The bag disconnects easily from its holding bracket and weighs 6.5 pounds.

  4. Priority one is staying safe and healthy.
  5. Test out gear and understand basic repair.
  6. Keep a journal in print and online.
  7. Research and fine tune the route.
  8. Get fit but don't obsess about it.
